The M2T file suffix is associated with the video format, called MPEG-2 transport stream. MPEG-2 transport stream file is a standardized container format for audio and video data and is the native media format for Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) standards and Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) standards. MPEG-2 transport stream file format was developed for terrestrial or satellite broadcasting, because it contains error corrections and stream synchronization features, that are useful for transmission integrity, even with bad signal. The maximal resolution of the video is 1080i. Audio is stored in AC-3 Dolby Digital audio format or in Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) format.
