The .lit file format

The format was designed for use solely by the Microsoft Reader application. The format is therefore incompatible with a number of popular eBook devices such as the Amazon Kindle and iBooks.

 

.lit technical details

Created in 2000, LIT (Literature) files are associated with Microsoft Reader- a free Windows program for electronic documents such as eBooks. They also work on devices like Windows. Microsoft Compressed HTML Help format has LIT as its extension which includes DRM. Adopted of LIT files has been tempered by to its incompatibility with several devices and as a result the format was has not been supported since 2011. The LIT file type and Microsoft Reader has been overtaken by other formats which are cross compatible with other devices.
