MOBI, MOBI Mobipocket eBook (.mobi)

The .mobi file format

Mobi is a file extension was developed in 2000 by Mobipocket for ebook readers. It is a free software program catering for multiple devices such as smartphones, tablets and PDAs. Amazon took over Mobipocket in 2005, however because MOBI files were no longer supported from then on, no other current eBook reader is able to access the files; consequently AZW file extension replaced it in 2011.

.mobi technical details

The MOBI eBook format is founded on XHTML and is capable of framing in JavaScript. Users can personalize the application by adding pages, notes, drawings, etc. A built in dictionary is included in the Mobipocket Reader.
