The .ogg file format

OGG file format is a type of audio file that uses ODD Vorbis compression. It is supported by devices like Samsung and Archos but not supported by Apple iOS devices. This format has been utilised for provision of audio streaming. It is more synonymous to MP3.

 

.ogg technical details

OGG format is actually a container that allows different streams of Video, audio and metadata. It is the compression format that provides medium to high quality audio between 16 and 128 kbps per channel. It is a better quality sound than MP3. OGG file is a lossy codec; data is discarded as part of the compression technique hence a smaller size. They are still acceptable quality for speech only files although they are optimized for music files.
