RAF, RAF Fuji Digital Camera Raw Image (.raf)
The .raf file format
These are the RAF RAW file formats associated with Fuji digital cameras. The files comprise metadata containing information about the lens, camera, settings and more. Raw files are the images which are not yet ready for printing, processing, or editing with bitmap graphics editors. The raw file tries to resemble the scene very closely by accurately representing the essential photo features such as light, intensity, and colors present. The camera’s sensor records Raw data images as captured by the camera. RAF contained in the camera memory card can be saved in either an uncompressed or a lossless compressed format.
.raf technical details
RAF files can be changed without touching the raw file. In-camera processing i.e. modifying white balance, hue, tone, sharpness, exists as a set of commands within the file which can be altered at any time without reducing the quality or material held by the file. Compared to JPEG or TIFF files with 8-bits,RAF files can retain 12- and 14-bit data, which gives them more variety of colors. RAF files hold metadata as well as a thumbnail, together with a JPEG file version to enable quick viewing of the image. RAF files can be revised and saved again as a RAF file, or they can be saved in a different format like a JPEG or TIFF for convenient storing, sending, printing, and editing.
