The .xps file format
Open XML Paper Specification or OpenXPS is an open specification referring to a page description language or fixed-document format. It was developed by Microsoft as the XML Paper Specification (XPS) and later substituted with the ECMA standard .oxps format, which previously was not supported in Windows. OpenXPS embraces device independence and resolution independence in its features.
.xps technical details
XPS falls under XAML markup language and consists of structured XML markup that outlines the document’s layout as well as the visual appearance of each page. An XPS file is a ZIP archive that uses Open Packaging Conventions to hold files constituted within the document namely a XML markup file representing each page, raster images and 2D vector graphics, text, embedded fonts, together with the digital rights management information.
