JP2 File Converter

JP2 files use wavelet-based compression instead of the discrete cosine transform used by JPEG, which allows for better preservation of image details at smaller file sizes. They typically have the MIME type image/jp2 and can be opened by many image viewers, though support is less widespread than JPEG.

JPEG 2000 was created in the early 2000s as a successor to the original JPEG standard to address its limitations, such as compression artifacts. Unlike JPEG, JP2 files support lossless compression and can store multiple layers and metadata, which is useful in medical imaging and digital cinema.
